A Chinese man spent only 6 months working in Africa and the creatures were discovered when he went to a dermatologist at the Shenzhen Nanshan Hospital in China and complained about sore and itchy blotches on his body.

The dermatologist examined his pus-filled sores and determined that maggots were nestled underneath under the skin of his abdomen and right thigh.
He later underwent a minor surgery to remove a total of 20 live maggots from his body.

The maggots were later identified as Tumbu fly maggots, a type of blowfly whose larvae is known to feed on living human tissue. The 'Tumbu fly' is widespread over the Ethiopian region. The larva penetrates the skin (some can even go through clothes on the way.
