Nearly four years after passing the Imo fouryear rolling plan budget that was said to have tied over 70 percent of the state’s monthly revenue on projects, the state House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has passed a bill for a law to prohibit contract abandonment in the state.

The bill, sponsored by the member representing Mbaitoli constituency, Hon. Victor Ndunagu and many others, was passed after debate at the Committee of the Whole House.

Accordingly, the House unanimously resolved that government projects not completed before a new administration comes into office, shall not be abandoned, but rather, completed within the firsts 100 days in office of the new administration, subject to availability of funds.

The members maintained that every registered government contractor should present to the government or its representative, a collateral equivalent of money to be paid to the contractor by the government as security, stressing that any contractor that delivers shoddy jobs shall be required to repeat and deliver quality work in line with the specification as contained in the bill of quantities.
