SxChairman Jega explained that even though INEC was prepared to run the elections later this month, “there are other variables” at play when ensuring that Nigeria’s elections are free and fair.
One of the greatest concerns for February’s election was the question of insecurity, particularly in the northeast. Chairman Jega has been under intense pressure from the government and security services to postpone the election dates. Sahara Reporters has previously reported that President Jonathan’s National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki confronted Chairman Jega before the Council of State meeting on February 5th.
