The results of weekend’s local government election in Delta State have been declared with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winning 22 out of 25 local governments. Apart from Isoko South local government area where the result was being awaited at the time of filing this report, the election in Ndokwa East did not hold while that of Ethiope East was inconclusive.
Local government areas that won the chairmanship election as declared by the state’s Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) yesterday include Uvwie, Burutu, Ika North East, Ika South,
Ughelli South, Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Sapele, Warri South, Oshimili South and Ughelli North.
Others are Ukwuani, Warri South-West, Oshimili North, Ndokwa West, Udu, Okpe, Bomadi, Warri North, Ukwuani and Isoko North.
The party also won the election in Patani and Ethiope West where the chairmanship candidates were returned unopposed.
The returning officer for Ethiope East, Rev Oke Okokotu explained that results were yet to be received from eight out of the 20 wards in the area. He said the PDP was leading with 12,146 votes followed by the Labour Party with 4,333 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) was third with 960 votes.
Chairman of the commission, Mr Moses Ogbe, while receiving the result for Ethiope East from Okokotu, said that run-off election would be conducted in the eight wards.
Ogbe had announced that the chairmanship candidates of the PDP in the two council areas of Ethiope West and Patani were returned unopposed as none of the opposition parties fielded candidates for the areas.
Besides, Ogbe said the PDP councillorship candidates for the 20 wards in Patani council area were returned unopposed following the failure
