Following the occupation of Adamawa’s second largest town, Mubi, by Boko Haram insurgents and rumours of a possible Boko Haram attack in Yola, the state capital, secondary schools in parts of the state have shut down temporarily.

Last Friday, most ‘day’ students were sent home by their teachers before the close of the school day while boarding students were seen leaving schools with their belongings.

Meanwhile, the Director of Press and Public Affairs in the governor’s office, Phineas Elisha, said the State Government had not closed down secondary schools, but parents were afraid.

He said he went on air to reassure parents that their wards were safe in schools but they refused to listen. One parent, Daje Lantan, who spoke to DailyTrust said they do not want a repeat of the Chibok experience, saying their children will stay at home until normalcy returns.
