The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has put aside his governorship ambition of Sokoto state and picked up the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2015 elections.

Tambuwal who recently defected from the PDP to APC has been rumored to be nursing a presidential ambition but always said he was still consulting. Apparently he has finished his consultations as he picked up the APC form on Monday.

The Speaker’s decision to join the race now means the APC has six candidates seeking to emerge as the party’s flagbearer in 2015.

They are Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Sam Nda-Isaiah and Rochas Okorocha (Okorocha is yet to pick up his forms). Tambuwal’s entry into the APC presidential race has effectively altered the calculations in the party.

He is also said to have the backing of a few party leaders who have been rooting for a game changer who could be presented to the Nigerian people. The Speaker was also said to have met with Buhari and other aspirants in the party to inform them of his ambition. He is expected to submit his forms today or before the end of the week.
