The Independent National Electoral Commission in Taraba state yesterday said that the commission would be using about 12,000 adhoc staff during the elections in Taraba State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Alhaji Ahmad Makama, said online application for recruitment of adhoc staff was still ongoing. Alhaji Makama said members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) would form bulk of the adhoc staff, adding that students of tertiary institutions and civil servants would also be used if the corps members are not enough.

According to Makama, the commission was doing its best to ensure free and fair elections in the state. He said already, non sensitive materials had been distributed across the Registration Area Centres (RACs) in the state, adding that sensitive materials would arrive the state two days to the exercise.

The REC, also urged politicians not to approach the elections with ‘do or die’ mindsets, adding that winners must be magnanimous in victory while losers must learn to concede defeat.
