APC and PDP Fan Debate on Cool Fm 96.9 at 7.45pm |
In the studio today, Mr Nnamdi Iheoma (PDP) and Mr Segun Adeleke (APC) will be with 'Maryann Live' live in the studio talking on behalf of the Parties they support. Note they are not politicians in any way, they are Nigerian citizen who have the interest of Nigeria at heart. The questions and corresponding answers are below...
Q1. How do you access PDP/APC
Response from APC Fan
Ans 1. Emergence of APC in our political landscape has provided us as a country the most desired and robust opposition for the first time. Never in the history of the country has the incumbent government at the federal level shaken to their root in days preceeding to the general elections. This is not to say there is a clear difference in ideology of APC or the politicians that made up the party except for the presidential candidate the party is putting forward in this general election.
Many Nigerians including myself believe and strongly hope the no nonsense attitude, uprightness, integrity and modest lifestyle of General Buhari will give a leadership style devoid of ineptitude, impunity, wastages and recklessness in public service as we experience today from federal right to the local government level. This is what Nigeria need now.
Response from PDP Fan
Ans 1. Apc is an opposition who are desperately looking for powers at all cost.
Response from APC Fan
Ans 2. There is need to be careful about how government interfere with the activities of the electoral umpire so that the integrity of the body will not be compromised, hence the result of the election will be adjudged to be free and fair. There is nothing wrong in postponing election if the electoral body is not ready but in the language of INEC chairman during his press conference, it was clear that he was forced to take that decision because in his words, the security forces that supposed to provide security and logistics support for the the election wrote to say their men are not available. You will recall that earlier before the council of state meeting, the NSA in London suggested a postponement of the election, a position he presented at the council of state meeting but roundly defeated.
Now that the election has been postponed, INEC and other stakeholders holders should take advantage of the six weeks to perfect all the arrangements to give Nigeria the best election ever.

Ans 2. If we can not vote immediately after accreditation I don't think card reader should be used for the election. Card readers does not determine the success of election its can only be used for accreditation according to INEC. And accreditation alone does not certify the credibility of an election.
Response from APC Fan
Ans 3. Card reader will improve on the credibility of this election. It will eliminate multiple voting, with the card reader, number of votes cast cannot be more than no of accredited voters.
People arguing that our electoral law did not allow for electonic voting are getting it wrong, card reader is being used for electronic accreditation. The actual voting is still manual and the process of this accreditation is very simple as demonstrated by INEC. Not different from all the biometrics we have been with one organisation or the other. The card reader we are told has battery life of 10 hours and communication is with GSM sim card. I can see the failure rate to be less than 5%.
I found something curious though about the debate on the use of the card reader in the coming election. The opposition to the use is not expected from thesame goverment that provided the money to procure this machine. I suppose INEC mentioned in its budget proposal the procurement of this card reader and for what purpose is meant for, so what is the hues and cries about now?

Ans 3. The postponement of the election is a welcome development. It has really given us more time to put things in place because alot would have gone wrong.80% of Bornu War zone has collected their PVC while Lagos is 39%. How do you explain it?
Q4. Should Soldiers be used for elections?
Response from APC Fan
Ans 4. Considering the security challenges we have in the country presently, soldiers will be definitely be required to compliment what other security agencies will be doing during the election. It's within the constitutional responsibility of the president to protect lives and properties of citizens of this country at all times. However when this soldiers were drafted during election, they should remember they care soldiers of federal Republic of Nigeria and not meant for any political party. They are suppose to be apolitical.
Allegation of what the soldiers did in Ekiti gubernatorial election if found to be true is very shameful, embarrassing and condemneable. Ekiti incident and unpreparedness of goverment to investigate the matter but rather rewarding one of the accused in the scandal with a ministerial slot is not helping matters. This attitude is making the opposition to be suspicious of the motive of the goverment in drafting soldiers to this election. Since the president is also in this contest, he should not be seen to be using the apparatus of the state to his advantage.
Response from PDP Fan
Ans 4. I for one will not come out to vote if the military are not are around. We need them for security purposes. Seeing them gives me a sense security comportment and orderliness.
