Rivers APC Rally Attack - IGP Reacts
Sequel to the untimely death of some police officers on Tuesday at the campaign rally of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Okrika, Rivers State, the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba has reacted to the incident.Subscribe to Maryann Live by Email
The IGP’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, by the Force Public Relations Officer, acting Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ojukwu, a copy obtained by Theeagle.
“The IGP deeply regretted the loss of lives of Policemen in the course of providing safety in the electoral process. His heart went out to the families of the slain colleagues as he wished the injured officers speedy recovery and return to national duty,” Abba said.The inspector general of police also ordered a full-scale investigation into the bombing and shooting incidents that led to the death of his colleagues. Abba ordered the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge Zone 6, Calabar, Johnson Tunde Ogunshakin, to take over the investigation and quickly arrest the perpetrators, conspirators and sponsors of the attack.

The IGP directed a judicious prosecution of suspects arrested in connection with violence across the country, adding that despite serious warnings, advices and interfaces with political actors to avoid any acts of violence in the ongoing electoral process, such acts have continued.
Abba reiterated the resolve and commitment of the Nigeria Police Force in fulfilling its constitutional and statutory mandate to continue to provide a level playing ground for all political parties to campaign and sell their manifestoes in order to win elections.
