How to Date and Marry Someone Much Richer than You

When it's true love that's at stake, money shouldn't be factor; right? While most of us would like to believe this, it's hard to deny that income brackets always have and always will play at least a small role in relationships. When you find yourself in a situation where you're dating (or would like to date) a much wealthier person there are certainly some things to keep in mind.

If you're a woman looking to date a wealthy man just for the financial stability (which sounds like an awful goal but it's also pretty easy to understand) then it's all about putting yourself in the right setting. Try going to a high end restaurant alone and having a drink at the bar. Even if you don't meet a guy who strikes your fancy in this way, the networking benefits of making rich friends can lead you into the right circle. Golf courses, High Class lounge, Expensive Restaurant, Gym in high brow areas, etc are other places you might try paying a visit to.

If you have no shame and the idea “money for relationship” agreements don't bother you (I tend to be of the belief that this sort of thing shouldn't be judged, because it happens in most “normal” relationships anyway to some degree).

Never downplay your morals for ephemeral benefits though; if you feel bad about yourself for the way you've acquired your money, then the money itself can't do much to make you happy. On the other side of that, you don't need to let society thinking corner you into certain ethical values; these sorts of things are personal decisions. After all, who's to say that some rich guy won't be your soulmate.

If you're a man looking to date a wealthy woman, there a few things that make dating a wealthy individual different than dating someone in your own income range. First off, if you really like someone then you don't want them to feel like you're only out for their wallet. Offer to make dinner or take your date on a scenic hike. Show them that you want to spend time with them in ways that require no money spent by anyone. Maintain a job. If you don't have one, then get one. While your income may not be necessary for the financial stability of a relationship when you're dating someone with a triple figure salary, showing a passion for your own career helps send the right message; that message being that you love the person you're with and not the money they make.

If you're a man dating a much wealthier woman, demand to pay the bill at dinner or movies sometimes. Despite the fact that this may be a harder blow to your own budget than it would have been to hers, she will be naturally flattered and will enjoy the feeling of protection from her partner. Also note that rich women enjoy gifts from their man every bit as much as the non-rich variety, so surprise her with something nice from time to time. Spending money on someone with money essentially says “I would treat you the same even if you weren't rich”, which is the understanding that you want to get across.

Everyone loves money, and those who are lucky enough to have lots of it can be quite enticing. Whether you're in a relationship for the money, or just in love with a much richer person, it's important to think of the relationship first, yourself second and the money third.  There are things in life more vital to happiness, so tread lightly and make well justified decisions.
