The Swedish organization Södra Afrika idag reports that on July 11, Assembleia da República in Mozambique approved a new penal code, which substitutes the one dating from 1887.

As the law was passed, the last official hindrance against bi- and homosexuality has been removed. Homosexuality has not been outspokenly forbidden, but rather a legal question of interpretation. In the 1887 version of the law homosexuality was referred to as “a crime of nature”. Now that this paragraph has been removed homosexuality is not criminalized in Mozambique.
